Question
What lenses are the TC-14E/TC-14EII and TC-20E/TC-20EII teleconverters compatible with?

Answer
The TC-14E/TC-14EII and TC-20E/TC-20EII AF teleconverters can be used only with AF-S and AF-I Nikkor telephoto and telephoto zoom lenses. These teleconverters are NOT compatible with wide-angle and wide-to-telephoto AF-S zoom lenses (such as the 17-35mm f/2.8D, 28-70mm f/2.8D, 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G, 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G VR, and 12-24mm f/4G DX), nor can they be attached to non AF-S or AF-I Nikkor lenses.

The TC-20E/TC-20EII teleconverter provides automatic focusing only with AF-S/AF-I Nikkor telephoto and telephoto zoom lenses with a maximum aperture of f/2.8. When the TC-20E/TC-20EII is used on a 300mm f/4D, 500mm f/4D, or 600mm f/4D AF-S or AF-I lens, manual focusing is necessary. Reliable autofocusing requires a lens with a maximum aperture of f/5.6 or wider. The effective maximum aperture of an f/4 lens with the TC-20E/II attached is f/8.

The only differences between the original TC20E (and TC14E) and the newer "II" models are cosmetic changes so that the teleconverters match the finish and style of the newer "II" models of some lenses.
